Additional Information

Swiss-born PATRICK MORAZ is the only musician in the world to have been an official member of YES and the Moody Blues, not to mention Refugee.

In his early years, having studied with music masters as diverse as Nadia Boulanger, John Lewis (MJQ) and Stephane Grappelli, Patrick won several #1 awards at European Jazz Festivals, and with his own quartet was invited to open for the John Coltrane quartet.

Later on, he formed his own band, Mainhorse, then the group Refugee along with former members of The Nice, Lee Jackson and Brian Davison.

In 1974 Patrick became an official member of YES and joined them in composing and recording the album Relayer.  His years with YES were some of the most extraordinary for him and the band, playing to sold out arenas and stadiums internationally.

After 3 solo albums, he was invited to play with the Moody Blues in 1978, and became a member of the group during the recording of Long Distance Voyagerin 1980. The album sold more than 11 million copies.

During the mid-80’s, Patrick Moraz and drummer Bill Bruford joined forces to create and record under the name of Moraz-Bruford, a unique and successful partnership.

After several solo concerts in the Far East and Japan, and having recorded his first solo piano album Windows of Time, in 1993 Patrick made the bold decision to play solo piano concerts booked directly via the Internet, which was just in its infancy at this point. He named the tour “CHAT (Coming Home America Tours)” and became one of the first artists ever book tours himself in this way.

Patrick Moraz has never stopped composing and developing new ideas and concepts.

By the beginning of the 21st century, he was composing works for symphony orchestras in Europe, giving master classes, and participating in conferences at universities and other institutions.

To date he has released more than 20 solo albums, multiple live concerts videos and more than 35 film scores, including the “Grand-Prix du Jury” of the Cannes Film Festival, for L’invitation.

This year, Patrick was invited by UNESCO to take part in a worldwide charity project. He contributed and performed a music piece and poem, sung and spoken by Annie Haslam of the Renaissance fame.  Alongside 300 artists, a major work of 45 different pieces was created under the name of A.M.P.U (Action Moves People United).

Most recently, he has formed a new trio called i NOW, with Bunny Brunel on bass and Virgil Donati on drums.
