Additional Information

11/16 The Flame Festival with the Rebeca Vallejo Trio and Chano Dominguez Duo

In the course of its continuing evolution, jazz has blended with sounds from around the world – including Spain’s living tradition of Flamenco. Now in its third edition, the Flame Festival is the only festival in the U.S. dedicated to promoting this exciting musical hybrid.

7:30 p.m. The Rebeca Vallejo Trio

The music of Madrid–born vocalist and composer Rebeca Vallejo combines her ancestral Flamenco roots and her deep love of Brazilian music with the language of jazz. Her earliest public performances at age four began a music journey from Spain to English to New York. Rebeca Vallejo is the creator and bandleader of the groups EuroLatinJazz and EuroLatinFunk, and for two years served as the principal singer for the Día Flamenco dance company. Her third and latest studio album, Azúcar Canela, was produced by John Seymour (Santana, U2, Dave Matthews Band) and features the multi–cultural “concept trio” of piano, voice, and drums/percussion. Rebeca, George Dulin, and David Silliman will bring this music to vivid life tonight – only at Jazz Standard!

9:30 p.m. Chano Dominguez Duo

Pianist Chano Dominguez has dedicated a 25–year career to the personal expression of his Flamenco origins through the medium of jazz. His music has thrilled and enchanted audiences across Europe and North America, and has brought Dominguez into the company of such noted collaborators as Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, and Herbie Hancock. His discography includes New Flamenco Sound (Verve, 2007), Piano Ibérico (EMI, 2010), and the GRAMMY–nominated Flamenco Sketches (Blue Note, 2011), recorded live at Jazz Standard. The award–winning bassist Alexis Cuadrado will accompany Chano Dominguez; he’s performed and/or recorded with Angélique Kidjo, Youssou N’Dour, Dianne Reeves, and Steve Wilson, just to name a few.
