Empty Bottle, Chicago, IL
21 years and over
Former EMERALDS member MARK MCGUIRE hits the Bottle for his first time in over three years, when he opened for the likes of EARTH and JENNY HVAL (and THE WAR ON DRUGS at Metro) over the course of a few weeks. Channeling Midwestern underground consciousness, the multi-instrumentalist recently emerged with a new album, Vision On Purpose, the full-length sequel to the 2015 epic Beyond Belief. Beginning in 2015 with the birth of the beloved one, Vision sees magic brought directly into 3D reality, bringing new adventures into being with a new sight and new purpose. As he's known to do, MCGUIRE presents a unique vision of modern psychedelia with a sound that is complex and meditative, creating a direct connection with fans in a live setting through his hypnotic playing and layering.
ANCIENT OCEAN is the psychedelic ambient/drone project of one JOHN BOHANNON. The Quietus said of his 2015 Beyond Beyond Is Beyond LP, "Blood Moon benefits endlessly from Ancient Ocean's soft, almost tentative touch. In paring down the bruising drone assault and moving more towards the interpretive stance of the Fluxus scene, Bohannon encourages the listener to actively pay attention to the music."
Kicking the evening off is DANIEL WYCHE, a local-guitarist working with a wide range of physical preparations, extended techniques, and filter and delay instruments, in order to isolate, draw out and explore the relationships between forms of resonance, overtones and noise through the production and manipulation of sustained feedback and percussive artifacts. Over the past several years, this work has become increasingly integrated with the exploration of multi-channel performance, the spatialization of sound, and site specific-composition. Along with ongoing collaborations with artists like Julian Lynch (Real Estate), Mark Shippy (US Maple, Invisible Things), Ben Baker Billington (Tiger Hatchery, ONO, ADT), Ricardo Lagamosino (Joe Lally, Many Arms, Lithuania), Ryan Packard (Fonema Consort, Skeletons) and others, Daniel continues to collaborate within free improvisation, noise, New Music and experimental communities throughout the US and abroad.
