Additional Information

David Gilmore is among the most boldly creative artists of his jazz generation. Over the course of a 30–year career, he’s performed and/or recorded with such leaders as Dave Douglas, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, and Randy Brecker; he appears on more than 50 recordings, including Wayne Shorter’s GRAMMY Award–winning album, High Life (Verve, 1995). As a guitarist, Gilmore has been compared to players as diverse as George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix and Leo Nocentelli…and he remains committed to an improvisational approach that reflects a global aware¬ness. For one night only, David Gilmore returns to our stage – where he recorded his acclaimed 2012 album Numerology (Live At Jazz Standard) – at the helm of an exceptional band including saxophonist Mark Shim and drummer EJ Strickland. “It’s no mystery why Mr. Gilmore enlists players so adept at polyrhythmic aggression: his music stacks one elaborate system atop another, drawing from African music and many strains of fusion.” (NY Times)
