"Somi’s songs gracefully fuse African-tinged grooves, supple jazz singing and compassionate social consciousness; they’re both serious and seductive." - The New York Times

Enjoy a performance by one of the most compelling voices in jazz who The Huffington Post hailed as "The New High Priestess of Soul.”  Born and raised in Illinois by Ugandan immigrants, vocalist & songwriter Somi returns from her New York City base to present a set of music from her chart-topping album The Lagos Music Salon (Sony/OKeh).  Inspired by an 18-month sabbatical in Lagos, Nigeria, the album debuted at #1 on US Jazz charts and features Grammy-winning special guests Angelique Kidjo and Common.  Drawing material from the tropical city's boastful cosmopolitanism, urgent inspiration, and giant spirit, Somi manages to  straddle the worlds of African jazz and soul with newfound ease.  Often referred to as a modern-day Miriam Makeba, JazzTimes magazine describes her live performance as “the earthy gutsiness of Nina Simone blended with the vocal beauty of Dianne Reeves.”
