With her deep connections in the Chicago music and theatre scenes, and highly regarded as one of the best voices in Chicago, Filip draws top-drawer, veteran musicians to collaborate on her earthy, evocative sound.
Coming from a music-filled household, her first studio experience came singing on commercial jingles, alongside her parents, at five years old. Filip attended The Chicago Academy for the Arts for vocal performance, took a year to gallivant around Ireland and then began working professionally in musical theatre productions. Filip went on several tours throughout the US and Canada, finally settling back home in Chicago. In her theatre career, she has been featured on nearly every stage in the Chicago-land area.
Eventually, Filip started writing songs, much to her chagrin. (She'd vowed never to go into the music biz like her parents). She also sought out the assistance of her friend and Grammy nominated producer, Liam Davis, who agreed to help develop Filip's sound and begin work on a debut album.
The resulting LP, Stop Time, due for release on 8/8/16, combines Filip's deep understanding of story telling through a lyric. Her songs are full of gorgeous melodies, honest reverie, and often the kind of humor that comes from realizing sometimes the only possible response to the pitfalls of life is a good hook and great groove.
