Empty Bottle, Chicago, IL
21 years and over
We are stoked to welcome back our pal JIMMY WHISPERS to our stage to help celebrate the release of his debut LP, Summer In Pain, courtesy of Moniker Records. It was just recently announced that Mr. Whispers will be performing the 2015 Pitchfork Music Festival and last month he opened for ARIEL PINK at Thalia Hall! Mr. WHISPERS has been a rising star ever since his Summer in Pain Festival at The Hideout -- a fest he held last year to benefit the Chicago-based violence-prevention group, CeaseFire. JAMES is the type of socially conscious artist this city needs right now. Coupling painfully raw, highly accessible love-songs with an almost-frightening enthusiasm, JIMMY is as jubilant as they come and he’s here to keep the mood light while giving us something better to believe in. Genre-hopping local prog-rock minded BOBBY CONN returns to the Bottle for the first time in almost two years. Incorporating experimental performance art, noise music and rock & roll, BOBBY CONN has been a staple of the experimental rock community for the better part of the past two decades and is known for his viciously catchy and elaborate charades. In the words of Tiny Mix Tapes, “much like macaroni, Chicago music fixture BOBBY CONN is always there for you,” and we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome BOBBY and his backing band back to our stage tonight. WHITNEY is the project of ex-SMITH WESTERNS guitarist MAX KAKACEK and drummer JULIEN EHRLICH. Tonight is the live debut of WHITNEY at the Bottle, so come out and see what these promising young wizards have been working on. Our pal JIMMY WHISPERS says it sounds like "STEELY DAN and VAN MORRISON collaborating" -- that is a good thing! Lo-fi bedroom pop songwriter J FERNANDEZ has become a staple in the Chicago scene of DIY weirdos, animators, freak folkers and rabble rousers. Mr. FERNANDEZ’s music is that of a timeless piñata, like an old penny that’s made the rounds and been touched by many hands and we love the tapes he’s released on Teen River and Pretty All Right. Don't miss this promising young rocker as he returns to our stage to open tonight's show.
