Since 2009, the Jezebels, hailing from the Australian city of Sydney, have been making moody and atmospheric pop perfection, as evidenced on their 2011 release, Prisoner. This album, often compared to the work of Kate Bush, won them the 2011 Australian Music Prize. Their fame has extended beyond Australia, however, as Prisoner has earned quite a bit of buzz in the US and the UK. “Instrumentally, Prisoner piles echo-soaked guitar riffs on to hard-rock drums, then adds a layer of unexpectedly inventive keyboard accents by Heather Shannon, whose pipe organ brightens the title track; she's also handy with cinematic synth-swooshes and jolts of bright electric piano. The whole dense cake is topped with a cherry in the form of singer Hayley Mary, the element that gives Prisoner character.” (Guardian UK) Opening are Canadian indie-rock band Yukon Blonde.
