Additional Information

There are a great many talented jazz musicians on the scene today. But Alvin Queen is one of those select few who can bring the whole jazz tradition to life, whenever and wherever he takes the stand. Born 1950 and raised in Mount Vernon NY, Alvin made his first (unissued) recording at age 12 on a date with Zoot Sims and Hank Jones; in 1963, Elvin Jones invited him to sit in with the John Coltrane Quartet in its historic run at Birdland. From the age of 16, Alvin worked with the groups of Wild Bill Davis, George Braith, Horace Silver, George Benson, and Charles Tolliver. He relocated to Europe in 1979 and released his first album as a leader the next year, followed by eight more titles through 2010. (As a sideman, the drummer has recorded with Johnny Griffin, Randy Brecker, and Kenny Drew among others.) Don’t miss this rare New York appearance by Alvin Queen, the spirit of jazz past, present, and future!
