Every time DISAPPEARS returns to our stage, these drone-rock-psychedelic-space-punk heroes blow us the hell away.  Featuring members of Chicago dignitaries 90 DAY MEN and THE PONYS, as well as STEVE SHELLEY from SONIC YOUTH, the band's music, in the words of The Stranger, "just sounds better than 99% of bands out there" - we couldn't agree more.  This year DISAPPEARS re-appears with their third LP, Pre Language, released via Kranky. A dense mixture of singer BRIAN CASE's hypnotic sing-chant, SHELLEY's pulverizing drums and a combined reverence for reverb, heavy tremolo, distortion, delay and repetition, DISAPPEARS' minimal rock music is inspired by everything from Kraut to American gospel to punk and we can’t get enough.  Earlier this year, local rabble rousers RADAR EYES, released their debut self-titled LP on HoZac and the effort blisters with their version of heavily layered noisy garage coated in several inches of distortion, reverb, echo and feedback.  In the words of Impose, RADAR EYES “play with a shoegazed despondency...some music sounds like a proper backdrop to the moment the chord attaching you to the outside of your spacecraft snaps and there’s no hope for a change in trajectory unless a distant planet’s gravity reels you in.”  POPULATION, an outfit comprised of members of some of Chicago’s most inventive punk rock, garage and new wave psych bands come together with their combination the robotic rhythms and deathly vocal delivery of NEW ORDER with the overpowering sonic structures of early shoe gaze noise to kick off tonight’s sonic sprawl.
