Pianist Matti Raekallio was born in Helsinki, Finland and studied in his home country as well as in London, England; Vienna, Austria, and at the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Conservatory in Russia. Mr. Raekallio has been an active concert performer, making his American debut in 1981 at the Carnegie (Weill) Recital Hall.

Since then, he has made regular tours of the U.S.A., including solo recitals and performances with several American symphony orchestras. He has made about 20 CDs for Ondine, including an acclaimed set of the complete Prokofiev Sonatas. In 2007 Mr. Raekallio joined the faculty of the Juilliard School in New York. Mr. Raekallio’s students include several First Prize winners in major international piano competitions. He regularly serves as a juror at competitions, and gives regular master classes in the USA, Europe and Asia.

This Master Class will be held on-stage at the Competition Site, an intimate venue with great acoustics and a Steinway D Piano! Mr. Raekallio will be sharing his vast knowledge and experience base with the audience, giving practical suggestions while playing examples. Note: Tickets to this Master Class are for spectators only.
