Jazz Standard, New York, NY
You might call it “Franco–American Night” at Jazz Standard, as a cutting–edge American guitarist and drummer (the brothers Gilmore) join forces with two equally talented musicians from France, Andy Emler and Francois Moutin. David Gilmore’s name will be familiar to many for his albums as a leader, beginning in 2001; his appearances on our stage with the Mingus Orchestra; and his work as a sideman with leaders such as Wayne Shorter, Dave Douglas, Don Byron, and Steve Coleman, just to name a few. Equally well known in his homeland of France is Andy Emler, a master pianist and prolific composer who received France’s prestigious “Django D’Or” prize for his work with the influential MegaOctet. Marque Gilmore is known as the founder of live Drum n' Bass, and has appeared on our stage with the great Cuban pianist Omar Sosa. Virtuoso bassist Francois Moutin, of the internationally renown Moutin Brothers, completes the French side of the equation. Presented by Chamber Music America (CMA) and the French-American Cultural Exchange (FACE).
