Chicago's BRAIN IDEA put out a limited edition LP/Tape of their debut effort, The Survival Scrolls on Permanent, a re-imagining of the first cassette they released in December of 09. It's awash in reverb, lo-fi fuzz, shoegaze, indie pop, defiant punk, inebriated psych-rock instrumental interludes and general awesomeness - you know you can expect good things from dudes who are also in a CCR cover band.  On their debut EP, Spooky Tooth, Philadelphia’s SON STEP combines intricate composition, improvisation, gritty electronics and heartfelt lyrics in an unholy brew of ambient, post-punk folk.  We hear that their live shows are often spattered with dual bass or guitar playing, passages of heavy group drumming and a communal sharing of vocal duties.  We expect them to rattle the rafters a bit tonight.  Earlier this year drone-pop, bluesy cacophonous band NAMES DIVINE released a two-song single on Bandcamp called Xibalba Be and, to quote the Reader, it’s “by far their tightest effort.  Lead howler and songwriter KENDRA CALHOUN has taken the band’s music in a new, kinda accessible direction – the tunes wouldn’t sound out of place on, like, a ‘respectable’ indie pop record.”
