Twice Grammy® nominated, Master of the Jazz Organ, Trumpeter & Vocalist, Joey DeFrancesco, along with trio members George Fludas & Jeff Parker offer a hard- driving performance that swings straight ahead.
A prodigious talent at an early age, Joey began taking a strong interest in the organ. By the time he was five, he was playing Jimmy Smith songs verbatim. As the years went on his interest and love for the organ and music grew stronger. At ten he began to play in a band in Philadelphia, featuring legendary players Hank Mobley and "Philly" Joe Jones. At sixteen he signed an exclusive recording contract with Columbia Records, releasing his first record "All Of Me" at seventeen. This record was single handedly responsible for the great resurgence of the Hammond sound in popular music. Also in his seventeenth year, he was called on by the great Miles Davis to join his band, and toured Europe. It was at that time that Joey, inspired by Miles’s sound, picked up the trumpet & started playing. To this day, Joey continues to play the trumpet, very similar to the style of Miles. At eighteen, Joey began touring with his own quartet. At twenty-two, John McLaughlin called him along with drummer Dennis Chambers, to form the group the "Free Spirits". This band toured extensively for four years. Joey has been around the world and back dozens of times with his own trio, but also playing and recording with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, David Sanborn, Arturo Sandoval, Benny Golson, James Moody, Steve Gadd, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb, George Benson, John Scofield, and many more. He has won the Down Beat Critics poll nine times & the Readers poll ever year since 2005 along with countless Jazz Journalist & other Jazz awards. In 2004 Joey was nominated for a Grammy for his record "Falling In Love Again", and again in 2010 for “Never Can Say Goodbye”. Currently, Joey continues to tour with his own group, and other all-star projects.
Chicago native George Fludas’ interest in drumming began when he was very young due to the influence of his father, who played drums and was an avid jazz fan. His father taught him the basics and frequently took George to see the great jazz drummers, such as Art Blakey, Max Roach and Buddy Rich.
Over the past 20 years George has performed at concert halls, festivals, and clubs throughout North America, Europe and Asia with numerous jazz greats, including Kenny Burrell, Betty Carter, Junior Cook, Lou Donaldson, Tommy Flanagan, Benny Golson, Benny Green, Eric Reed, Johnny Griffin, Roy Hargrove, Barry Harris, Hank Jones, Buddy Montgomery, David “Fathead” Newman, Nicholas Payton, Marlena Shaw, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ira Sullivan, Clark Terry, Frank Wess and Phil Woods.
Jeff Parker, guitarist, composer, educator, and sculptor of sonic textures. Since 1990, he has focused on being adaptable in musical environments that are constantly changing; he is an improvising musician. He is also a composer of instrumental songs.
An accomplished guitarist who’s played with numerous jazz greats, Nicolas Payton, Brian Blade, & Joshua Redman to name a few.
The trio is touring off Joey’s latest recording “One For Rudy”, a tribute to the iconic jazz recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder.
