Guys like Bob Schneider keep music really interesting for music lovers whose taste in music runs from traditional country, to blues-boogie rock, to the quirks of indie rock to the occasional bleep of electronica. Guys like Bob Schneider won't make a dent in the armor of giant, well-funded one-trick ponies who constantly attempt to enter the gates of our dear musical temple. We're okay with that. Those trojan horses are half-empty, anyway. For the last ten years, Bob's been guiding his intrepid muse down the alleyways and through the hills of genres that defies the simple "songwriter from Austin" tag. His discography boasts tunes like the boot-wearin', ass-kickin' "The Californian", the detuned blues of "Long Way Down", and the Leonard Cohenisms (down to the smoked baritone) of "Digging For Icicles" from his 2013 release, Burden Of Proof. Dawn & Hawkes, also from Austin, look like two beautiful young people who should be frolicking, love-struck, in a rootsily glamorous Levi's ad. They sure write some tender tunes, though that are sure to keep you up on equally love-struck nights. Not to be confused with Tony Orlando & Dawn, either! (PS. Bob will playing a full-band set tonight)
