Additional Information

Returning to the Bottle after debuting here back in September, experimental pop singer-songwriter JENNY HVAL headlines tonight in support of her fantastic 2013 LP, Innocence Is Kinky, out via Rune Grammofon. Produced in Bristol, England by PJ HARVEY collaborator JOHN PARISH, who helped bring out the intimate qualities of her lyrics while sharpening her improvisational tendencies, the effort weaves spellbinding new forms of intelligent, experimental pop with injections from mythology, theory and gender politics. The record is highly influenced by her sound installation work she's done over the past few years and you can trace her no-holds-barred streams of consciousness and unorthodox subject matter touch on such heroes as PATTI SMITH, MICHAEL GIRA, NICK CAVE and KATE BUSH. This is HVAL's last headlining date before she hits the east coast and U.K. opening for the unfuckablewith SWANS. Former EMERALDS member MARK MCGUIRE hits the Bottle to play his third Chicago show in less than a month, the first time opening a sold out Metro show with THE WAR ON DRUGS before he hit our stage a few days later, opening for EARTH. We're jazzed to hear more songs off of his critically acclaimed Dead Oceans debut, Along The Way, released this past year. Channeling Midwestern underground consciousness, the multi-instrumentalist has emerged with an album that details the inner journey of an individual seeking definition and enlightenment. MCGUIRE presents a unique vision of modern psychedelia with a sound that is complex and meditative, creating a direct connection with fans in a live setting through his hypnotic playing. WEDDING DRESS are certainly no strangers to the Bottle and we’re stoked to host their EB debut tonight! The band, which formed in early 2012, features members of MAPS & ATLASES, SUNS and JOAN OF ARC, and they combine their previous work to create meaty and substantial rock that’s filled to the brim with soul – definitely openers you don’t want to miss. Tonight they're here to celebrate the release of a brand new 7", courtesy of Lovitt Records, so pick it up before you head home.
