21 years and over
Providing his multi-instrumental talents to OKKERVIL RIVER since its inception, JONATHAN MEIBURG has been writing, recording and releasing material under the SHEARWATER name with a rotating cast of musicians since 2001 and has gained notoriety for his ability to craft expansive and lush recordings that continuously break sonic grounds. For their most recent effort, Fellow Travelers, out November 26th via Sub Pop, SHEARWATER cover songs by their previous tourmates – St. VINCENT, XIU XIU, COLDPLAY, WYE OAK, and many more. The band has managed to transform and remain inventive through the years and they've amped up their sound to explore new territory (more rock, less folk) – continuing the ever-evolving artistic journey that is SHEARWATER. DEATH VESSEL is the solo project of JOEL THIBODEAU, a Providence, RI-based singer-songwriter whose reed-thin but sturdy voice and acoustic arrangements are ageless and weary, gently walking the line between intense emotion and contemplative remove. This timeless approach, as seen on his upcoming third LP, Island Intervals, out February 25 on Sub Pop, caught the attention of SIGUR ROS's singer JONSI BIRGISSON and producer ALEX SOMMERS, who invited THIBODEAU to record the album in their remote Iceland studio this past year. The result demands its own sonic and lyrical world, one that's strange and mysterious and should be a chilling thrill to witness live on an early springtime evening. JESCA HOOP has lived all over the map, raised harmonizing in a Mormon family before rambling around the high-mountain deserts of Southwest and finally settling in Los Angeles to share her ever-present songwriting passion with a wider audience. Her rich life experience is reflected in her distinctive voice and natural gift for inventive craft that is familiar but defies genrefication, combining folk, rock and pop songwriting with lyrics that are dark and visceral, but disarmingly intimate. HOOP, who now resides in Manchester, England, has developed a reputation as a unique, beguiling performer and her third LP, The House That Jack Built, is her most fully-realized, broadest effort to date.
