Additional Information

Known the world over as the leader of Omaha's indie-rock kings CURSIVE, TIM KASHER has branched off in recent years to record material under his own name, eschewing CURSIVE's aggressive but emotive post-punk for more orchestral and lush songwriting. While his first solo record, 2010's The Game of Monogamy, was filled with theatrical arrangements, his new LP, Adult Film, out October 8 via Saddle Creek, features less ornate, but equally impacting instrumentation across its ten tracks. The album is filled with variations of KASHER's signature blend of ruminative rock and pop songwriting, ranging from raucous and barreling to uneasy and undulating, from deceptively bright and poppy to tempered and cascading. Lyrically, KASHER is at his incisive best, thematically elastic and touching on aging, mortality, and relationships of all kinds. Describing herself as an "unfunny Woody Allen," LAURA STEVENSON is a Long Islander with a lot of worry on her mind. Struggling with the overwhelming notions of an infinite universe and the imminence of her eventual demise, it's no surprise that her second album, April 2013's Wheel, is a fucking h.e.a.v.y. affair. Out on the increasingly impressive Don Giovanni Records, the record is brimming with life and death in the desperate search for what keeps us turning in the face of doubt. With lush, intricate arrangements and a fragile voice that literally breaks our hearts, STEVENSON has emerged as a powerful songwriter, with an emotional depth that is surprisingly down-to-earth. THE NEW TRUST is a Bay Area punk band that's been bashing out their unique, melody-driven love songs for the past decade. The term "love song" might cause some eye-rolls from old-school punkers, but fear not - this coed trio has more in common with bands like SHELLAC, NEUROSIS and HELICOPTERS than other sappy indie-"rockers" pouring their precious, brittle hearts out. Over the course of five albums, THE NEW TRUST has managed to tour with bands as diverse as THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES, SMOKING POPES and MINUS THE BEAR, and they recently recorded their finest material today it Chicago's own Electrical Audio with the legendary STEVE ALBINI.
