You think the ukulele is played out? You haven’t heard the charango yet, have you? It’s a multi-stringed, high-pitched strummy instrument crafted from the back of an armadillo. The charango is often used in indigenous-influenced music from Argentina, Peru, Chile, and other Latin American countries. It’s also used by The Melodic, a British band with slight twee and UK influences. So if bands like Heavenly, Ash, and hell, a whole lot of early-to-mid 90s UK bands gets you up and feelin’ fine, check out The Melodic. They are on Anti Records, after all. They've brought us fine releases by Neko Case and Tom Waits -- why would they fail us now? Young Rebekah Jean, a singer-songwriter unafraid of the dark and forlorn paths of Appalachian music, opens.
