Additional Information

Writing intensely personal music is nothing new for Montreal’s Patrick Krief, either as a solo artist or as the longtime guitarist for The Dears, but even Krief himself was taken aback by how strongly the songs he had written for Hundred Thousand Pieces had affected him. So much so that for nearly six months, the now 32-year-old had to step away from the project, and even began writing for another album altogether. Yet the pull of those 10 songs, which dealt so earnestly with his anxieties about growing older and continuing down the financially precarious road of a professional musician, was simply too powerful to cast aside. All the music had been recorded already – all that was left was for Krief to lay down the most heartfelt vocals of his life.

Cobalt & The Hired Guns is a boot-stompin', tambourine-shakin', irresistibly genuine good time. Seamlessly blending upbeat genres from Americana to Ska, this dynamic four piece puts on a rambunctious show filled with sharp musicianship and emotion. Cobalt & the Hired Guns is about love and guts, energy and enthusiasm - refusing to pretend they aren't having fun.

Darling originally formed in 2003 around the songwriting of Jeff Schneider, and released their debut ep, Ground is Sound on Cardboard Sangria shortly after. A newly adapted trio version of the band featuring the lilting melancholia of Jeff Schneider once again, but improves its sonic attack with the addition of Nick Voss and Pierce Codina. The new trio adds a wider range of sounds and a more tightly focused rhythm section to add to their impressive live shows. Darling is a sweet and hopeful mix of Built to Spill and Modest Mouse inspired indie guitars, with a bit of the sixties pop group vocals sneakin’ in. Darling has been recently playing out in support of its latest release "Keep Out", reviewed in the Chicago Reader
