NIGHT BEDS is the solo project of Nashville via Colorado Springs singer-songwriter WINSTON YELLEN, a young drifter who’s shown there’s still plenty of life in the world of Americana. YELLEN recorded three rudimentary EPs between 2008 and 2011 while drifting from town to town working menial jobs, but last month he released the stunning debut Country Sleep, out via Dead Oceans. The record features a full band and showcases YELLEN’s gorgeous, crooning tenor over a sublime mix of acoustic guitars, crooning violin, simple rhythms and heartfelt lyrics that come out of self-destructive sedation, aka boozin’ hard. Already drawing comparisons to RYAN ADAMS and JEFF BUCKLEY, NIGHT BEDS’s expressive and versatile alt-country is a heavenly blend of pure country and soul that touches on the innocence, honesty and heartbreak of youth. INDIANS is the work of one man, Copenhagen resident Søren Løkke Juul, who emerged last year in a fittingly understated manner and has only been playing live since February 2012. Retreating to a studio in the Danish countryside to finish his debut LP Somewhere Else, out this past January via 4AD, things have snowballed quickly over the past year and his album has been praised as a personal document that’s equal parts melancholic lament and hopeful stargazing. Brooklyn-based indie-folk-rock experimental songstress CAT MARTINO opens the show tonight, piecing together her piano, guitar loops and a smoky voice for your nightly dose of mind-blowing complexity that's remarkably listenable.
