Tonight’s FREE with RSVP show features four young ladies performing snythtastic solo sets that will feel a lot like suffocating in outer space. GEL SET is the solo project of Chicago musician LAURA CALLIER, a young lady who released a 6-track cassette tape gem on Modern Tapes in 2012 and who celebrates the release of her newest tape Microsoftcore XXCell on Lillerne Tapes here tonight. Filled with hazy, spacey, sparse minimal synth, the release has been praised by the Chicago Reader for sounding “like a lone candle struggling to light a basement covered in metal; the pleasures come not in the center of the tiny fire but on the edge of the flame as it fights against the steely cold and barren darkness that closes in around it.” ALEKS EVA, known for her ALEKS AND THE DRUMMER project, graced our stage this past October and we’re excited to welcome her now all-encompassing project MAGIC KEY back to the Bottle. MAGIC KEY, which features Ms. EVA as well as a special, hand-picked rotating family of talented musicians, highlights ALEKS’s powerful vocals, driving rhythms and all the synthy delights your heart could ask for. Minimal synth-babes SARAH WEIS and MATCHESS, aka WHITNEY JOHNSON from VERMA & E+, open what’s guaranteed to be well worth your $0.00 – be sure to RSVP by 5pm the night of the show, robots.
