Additional Information

Formed in Berlin in 1993 by drummer/vocalist FRANCOISE CACTUS and guitarist/synthesizerer/samplerer BREZEL GORING, STEREO TOTAL have created a colorful and fascinating universe that oscillates between punk rock, glam, disco, and electro-garage. Combining minimalist production with their anarchistic, lewd, sometimes-silly sometimes-sad lyrics, the duo’s short songs are both stunning and dazzling, and last year’s record, Cactus Versus Brezel on Kill Rock Stars, sees the band at the height of their powers. On stage STEREO TOTAL is a thrill, CACTUS singing with ease, shifting her vocals from romantic ballads to pure rock as she pounds devilish rhythms on her tiny drum kit, all while GORING’s feverish madness grips the audience’s attention, his fingers working the knobs of his machine or the cords of his rectangular guitar. THE HELIGOATS is primarily the outlet of under-praised oddball CHRIS OPTEKA, a singer-songwriter who’s most recent record, Back to the Ache, finds his quirky indie-pop more fleshed out with the addition of a full backing band. Currently on to support the new album, NPR recently praised OPTEKA in its Tiny Desk Concert segment for the “wise, wry observations on human emotions, science and the way things work.” CROSS RECORD is the songwriting project of EMILY CROSS, a young singer and multi-instrumentalist who collaborates on record and in a live setting. Last year's LP Be Good was a chilling but uplifting effort of alien-sounding drone-pop that's hazy warmth is perfect for hibernation, or opening tonight's bad-ass show.
