It’s no doubt in our minds that 2012 has been the Year of OUTER MINDS in Chicago, and we’re damn excited to be helping them celebrate the release of their second fantastic LP of the year, Behind the Mirror, which is out via FDH/Resurrection. They spent the year criss-crossing the states, playing festivals like Pitchfork, and generally stirring up a ruckus whenever they hit the stage with their take on the sounds of garage rock's first wave filtered through enough dreamy reverb to send you into a psychedelic stupor. Some of our favorite locals, BARE MUTANTS have already opened for the likes of ROKY ERICKSON, TY SEGALL and THEE OH SEES, AFGHAN WHIGS and DIVINE FITS – you might say they’re the go-to opener, though we think they’re damn strong on their own. Featuring members of THE PONYS, MANNEQUIN MEN, THE 1900s and LIKE PIONEERS, the MUTANTS return with their gorgeously laid back sound and smoke machine obsession paired with their tightly-wound, tense-yet-tranquil wall of sound. Earlier this year, local rabble rousers RADAR EYES, released their debut self-titled LP on HoZac and the effort blisters with their version of heavily layered noisy garage coated in several inches of distortion, reverb, echo and feedback.  In the words of Impose, RADAR EYES “play with a shoegazed despondency... some music sounds like a proper backdrop to the moment the chord attaching you to the outside of your spacecraft snaps and there’s no hope for a change in trajectory unless a distant planet’s gravity reels you in.” Chicago all girl punk quartet BLIZZARD BABIES return to the Bottle tonight and they’ve cornered the market of rock bands who utilize a ukulele with success. These BABIES round out a bill of friendly bands that have played our fair stage numerous times this year. Come down and celebrate the end of human existence a few days early, friends – it’s a FREE with RSVP show you do not want to miss.
