We're pleased to once again present our annual Adventures in Modern Music Festival, organized in conjunction with authoritative UK periodical The Wire. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the festival and we’re bringing out all the stops to present the best in outsider sounds from around the world. Specializing in the uniquely Chicago hip-hop/house subgenre of Footwork, CORNELIOUS FERGUSON, aka TRAXMAN, is a West Side DJ and producer who prides himself on always being at the forefront of the movement. Though footwork has exploded around town in the past 5 years, TRAXMAN has been spinning and creating legendary mixtapes since the mid 90s with his unique brand strongly rooted in Chicago's deep history of soul, funk, and house. A veteran producer and crate digging collector, FERGUSON is skilled in ways that are unmatched around town and he's sure to keep you moving late into the Saturday night/Sunday morning hours. French instrumental and electronic composer SYLVAIN CHAUVEAU's is nothing if not eccentric. He has composed a piece whose duration is seven years. It's titled "You Will Leave No Mark on the Winter Snow" and it features silences that last, sometimes, for several months. He runs the label Onement whose goal is to release one-off, one-copy vinyl records. He's a minimalist composer who works with symphonies and by himself and has made soundtracks for feature films and dance shows. Entirely unique in his goals and in his music, CHAUVEAU stops at the Bottle tonight for a performance The Wire calls "sparing, unassuming and accordingly effective." Norwegian musician GEIR JENSSEN, known to the world as BIOSPHERE, has been making ambient, drone-heavy techno for close to 30 years. Widely regarded as one of Norway’s most well established and distinctive electronic music artists, BIOSPHERE’s career spans numerous decades, nineteen albums, lots of remixes, various sound installations, commissions, soundtracks and even the Himalayan summit – take that, everyone else. Named one of the ten best solo acoustic guitar albums of 2011 by Pitchfork's The Out Door, HALLOCK HILL's The Union and A Hem of Evening elicited a powerful response from critics and fans alike for its unique stacking and layering of acoustic, electric and lap steel guitar improvisation. Spontaneous but comfortable, the record has a composure that swerves smoothly from harmonious to dissonant at unexpected times and we’re intrigued to see what kind of spiritual awakening this newcomer’s live performance will induce. (BV Chicago) (Pitchfork) (Reader) (Reader) (Resident Advisor) (The Wire)
