Description
The bond between old friends gives life meaning. When the friends are improvising musicians sharing the stage, their common language cements a mutual trust that can ignite the bandstand. Bound by a friendship of 25 years, drummer Ali Jackson, pianist Aaron Goldberg, and bassist Omer Avital — three contemporary masters of jazz — release their second collaborative studio effort "Grove du Jour" (jazz&people). Vibrant and exhilarating, their recording magnifies the spirit of swing and celebrates the excitement of playing together. The meeting of an Israeli of Yemeni/Moroccan decent, a Detroit–raised Black American with Islamic roots, and a Jewish Bostonian stands as a stellar example of how jazz music can transcend race, religion and politics. The members have all performed extensively both as leaders and members of multiple illustrious ensembles. Along with leading his own trio, Goldberg has been a regular member of groups led by Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Al Foster; Jackson is a longtime member of Wynton Marsalis’ small groups and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Omer Avital collaborated with generational peers Jason Lindner and Avishai Cohen in addition as well as with such legends as Roy Haynes and Jimmy Cobb.
