MAE MCCOY AND HER NEON STARS
Welcome to the heart of Sacramento’s Western Swing and Honky-Tonk scene! Mae McCoy and Her Neon Stars are Northern California’s go-to band for authentic honky-tonk music and the lively rhythms of Western Swing. With her distinctive artistry and trailblazing spirit, Mae McCoy has carved a unique path in the country music world, drawing from her diverse background and passion for preserving this rich musical tradition.
Mae’s journey in country music has taken her across California and beyond. In 2008, she competed (along with partner Sylvia Neal) on Season 1 of Can You Duet on CMT, filmed in Nashville, TN. Her love of honky-tonk extended to radio, where she co-hosted "Dinner Bell Roundup" on KDRT 95.7FM in Davis, CA, interviewing legends like “Whispering” Bill Anderson and Leon Rausch, Voice of the Texas Playboys. Mae has performed at iconic honky-tonks, including stages in Bakersfield, where she shared the spotlight with her hero, Red Simpson.
As the Vice President of the Western Swing Society and a Western Swing Hall of Fame Inductee, Mae passionately champions the preservation of this timeless genre. Her leadership and dedication shine through in every note she sings and every chord she strums, blending the traditions of honky-tonk with her own vibrant artistry.
The band began in Sacramento in 2008, opening for celebrated acts like Deke Dickerson, Big Sandy, and Rosie Flores. Mae’s deep honky-tonk roots are also showcased in her studio work, including her full-length album “Detour,” recorded at the legendary Heart of Texas Recording Studio in Brady, TX.
MARK HOLZINGER
