    $uicideboy$

    Hip-Hop/Rap

New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$ combined their talents in 2014, but as cousins, the pair were already well-acquainted. Ruby da Cherry and Scrim grew up together, white kids in Black neighborhoods on the east and west banks of the Crescent City. However, they initially veered down different paths. Ruby (aka Suicide Leopard) dabbled in punk rock, influenced by the MisfitsMinor Threat, and Leftover Crack. Meanwhile, Scrim (aka $lick $loth and Suicide Christ) was a DJ and songwriter. Once they joined forces, the result was a dark blend of horrorcore glitch-trap bubbling with booming bass, ominous atmospherics, and occultish, drugged-out rhymes. Signed to G59 Records, the Boy$ released the ambitious ten-part series Kill Your$elf. With titles like The $uicide $aga, The $eppuku $aga, and Re$urrection, $uicideboy$ layered their twisted raps over short tracks, releasing additional EPs like Black $uicide (with Black Smurf), Grey SheepG.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S., and My Liver Will Handle What My Heart Can't in 2015.

By 2016, with SXSW and international shows under their belts, the recordings continued, notching nearly 30 full efforts within two years. Radical $uicide, their 29th release, arrived in the summer of 2016. The five-track EP produced by Getter peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Rap charts. In 2017, the pair revived their Kill Yourself series with Kill Yourself, Pt. 11: The Kingdom Come Saga. Ten volumes were issued that year, closing with XX: The Infinity Saga.

Early 2018 saw the release of single "FUCKALLOFYOU2K18." Later that year, they issued "Carrollton" and "Meet Mr. NICEGUY," a pair of singles that landed on their fall release, I Want to Die in New Orleans. Issued in September 2019, the album landed at number nine on the Billboard 200. After closing out the year with collaborative EP Live Fast Die Whenever (with Travis Barker), the duo returned in March 2020 for their 45th project, Stop Staring at the Shadows. Also that year, Scrim made his solo debut with A Man Rose from the Dead.

  • Night Lovell

    Night Lovell

    Hip-Hop/Rap

Canadian rapper/producer Night Lovell embraced a dark and mysterious style from the start, working with tense beats and haunting vocal samples. His lyrics skewed toward darkness and pain on much of his work, resulting in a viral hit with his first single and huge fanfare for his brooding full-length releases like 2016's Red Teenage Melody.

Night Lovell was born Shermar Paul in Ottawa, Ontario in 1997. His father was rapper MC Renegade, and Paul grew up in a highly musical environment and was working on his own tracks by his teenage years. He first focused on production, working under the name KLNV (or Killanov) but took on the Night Lovell moniker and began rapping in 2013. In 2014, his song "Dark Light" was an immediate success, being streamed tens of millions of times and bringing Night Lovell's ominous energy to a worldwide fan base. Fiercely self-reliant, Night Lovell independently released his 2014 project, Concept Vague, as well as its 2016 follow-up, Red Teenage Melody. The rapper crafted many of his own beats and sometimes recorded vocals in his closet. He went dormant for a short time, but returned in 2019 with Goodnight Lovell, a lengthy album that included collaborations with $uicideBoy$Gnar, and Lil West.

  • Germ

    Germ

    Hip-Hop/Rap

Germ is the Australian musician Tim Yatras. Making a name for himself previously in bands such as Austere, Grey Waters and Woods of Desolation, Germ has now become Yatras’ main focus. Combining Post-Black Metal with everything from Classical elements to Electronics, to Stadium Rock sized choruses, Germ brings forth an atmospheric and experimental sound, as catchy as it is melancholic.
  • Ramirez

    Ramirez

    Hip-Hop/Rap

A Latino-American rapper who melds vivid lyricism with dark and melodic beats, Ramirez emerged in the mid-2010s with an evocative sound that combines elements of West Coast rap, cloud rap, and Southern trap.

Originally operating under the RVMIRXZ moniker, the San Francisco native developed his style, which also draws inspiration from horror and anime, as a member of Louisiana's G59 Records alongside prolific New Orleans rap duo $uicideboy$. Beginning with 2013's Trillity, he issued a string of expansive and diverse mixtapes including Pharaohs (2014), Latino Heat (2015), Blood Diamonds (2015), and Meet Me Where the River Turns Grey (2016). He appeared on multiple EPs and singles as well, aligning himself with contemporaries like $uicideboy$ ("G.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S" and "G.R.E.Y.G.O.D.S. I.I."), Yung Gravy ("The Boys Are Back in Town"), Ghostemane ("Bermuda"), and others. Subsequent mixtapes World War and Grey Gorilla, both issued in 2017, and 2018's Blood Diamonds 2 continued to make waves within the scene, but it was 2019's lauded Son of Serpentine, which featured guest spots from Pouya and Zillakami (City Morgue), that brought Ramirez into the mainstream. He capitalized on that momentum in 2020 with the singles "Voices in the Dark" and "Tales from the Guttah."
