MAV VIOLA was born and raised in a little surf town that no one makes it out of called Virginia Beach, VA. Mav received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from James Madison University then high-tailed it across the country to Los Angeles where she got her MFA in Dramatic Writing and professional certificate in Screenwriting from UCLA. She also completed both the conservatory for improv and sketch comedy writing at the Second City. Somewhere in there she made a rock album, did a bunch of drugs in Colorado, lead an outreach program for a homeless youth shelter in Hollywood, cut all her hair off, beat cancer, adopted a million dogs, put her teenage abuser in jail, married a Playboy model and became a stepparent. Now she’s all tatted and recovered; happy and hitting the stage to tell all of the tales through laughter.
Mav’s standup is self-reflective, unafraid, observational, honest and engaging. Her crowd work is unparalleled and her ability to connect with the audience transcends any preconceived ideas one might have when her Justin Bieber lookin’ ass walks on stage. Because she is constantly challenging herself to grow and evolve in her daily life, Mav is able to touch on dark topics with joyful undertones that force you to think and feel without sacrificing the laughter.
Mav has featured for Whitney Cummings and is a regularly featured comic on WhoHaHa, Elizabeth Bank’s production company. Mav has also performed in the Boston Women in Comedy Festival, the Portland Queer Comedy Festival, and can be seen performing all over California as well as the country.
