Tribute to Horace Silver: Mike Lewis & Friends Mike Lewis and Friends return to the Blue Note with a tribute to jazz pianist Horace Silver. Lewis is collaborating with Jazz Maui to bring over three performers from the "Valley Isle." Featured performers include Tanama Calibri (vocals), Jake Thomas (trumpet), and Dr. Joie Taylor (sax).  Horace Silver was an American jazz pianist. Silver got his break on piano when his trio was recruited by Stan Getz in 1950. He moved to New York City from Connecticut, where he developed a reputation as a composer and for his bluesy playing. Initially recording and performing for the famous jazz label Blue Note Records, Silver ended up leaving Blue Note records in the 1970s to create his own jazz label, Silveto.  Mike Lewis has spent substantial time performing in Polynesia and the tri-state New York area, Mike Lewis has recently moved back to Hawaii after touring and recording with Buddy Rich, Sarah Vaughn, Sammy Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Sonny and Cher, Billy Joel, Natalie Cole, Rosemary Clooney, The Temptations, Tony Bennett, Gladys Knight, and Bruno Mars.  Jazz Maui is a nonprofit organization that provides an opportunity for local residents, music students, aspiring young musicians, professional musicians, and jazz music aficionados to participate in and/or attend high-quality jazz music performance clinics and concerts on Maui.
