Tonya Boyd - Cannon is a Mississippi-born, New Orleans-raised singer-songwriter and classically trained vocalist known for her dynamic blend of jazz, funk, gospel, rock, reggae, and neo-soul. She began her professional career as a background vocalist for Jean Knight, famed for the hit "Mr. Big Stuff," and later gained national recognition as a Top 20 finalist on Season 8 of NBC’s The Voice. Boyd-Cannon's 2016 album MUZIC Is Life received critical acclaim, landing in ten categories in the first round of Grammy consideration. Her accolades include winning the 2010 Battle of the Crown Contest, leading to performances alongside artists like Anthony Hamilton, Kem, and Jaheim. Beyond her performance career, Tonya is a dedicated educator and mentor, conducting youth vocal workshops in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and NORD, and is the creator of the ARTcademics curriculum, which emphasizes both technical skill and self-expression in young vocalists.
