This special Jazz Standard showcase celebrates the release of The Wishing Stones (Destiny Records), Tom Guarna’s highest–profile project to date as a leader. On stage with the gifted guitarist and composer will be his album’s all–star accompanists: pianist Jon Cowherd, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Brian Blade. Tom began his musical career at age 15 on Staten Island, playing rock and roll and idolizing Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page before he began tuning in to the timeless jazz legacy of Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel, and Jim Hall. In 1995, Tom joined Blood, Sweat & Tears and toured extensively with the group for three years. Over the past two decades, he’s performed with a host of jazz leaders including Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Branford Marsalis, Randy Brecker, and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Tom Guarna has recorded seven previous CDs, from Get Together (2005) to Rush (2014); he also can be heard on New Cuban Express, the 2012 album by pianist Manuel Valera that received a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album.
