Raised in the London borough of Newham, Tiana initially embraced singing at the tender age of five. Tiana’s mother became a Sunday School teacher early on in her life, which meant Tiana got the opportunity to not only sing in church but to also teach songs to the other kids. Tiana’s father often shared his Caribbean heritage with the family through food and music, which they attributes to the Jamaican influence in their artistry: “I (still) feel the Jamaican influence on everything I do,” she goes on. “It’s in the way I speak, how I look, and the grooves of the music.” Drawing early inspiration from D’Angelo, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Esperanza Spalding, and Amy Winehouse and combining that passion with their musical upbringing made Tiana who she is today.
