The Woodbrains are an Alt-Blues/Roots band based out of Portland, OR and fronted by the critically acclaimed Americana songwriter and guitarist, Mark Lemhouse, who has shared stages with Junior Brown, Jimmy Vaughn, Buddy Guy, Kelly Joe Phelps, and Black Francis, of the Pixies as well as touring the US and Europe over the years. Blues Revue once touted Lemhouse’s slant on modern roots music as the future of the genre and SING OUT! Magazine proclaimed that Lemhouse is not only a gifted songwriter, but a stellar guitarist and vocalist as well. Backing him are some of Portland’s best- Jimi Bott (Fabulous Thunderbirds, Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers) winner of 20 Blues Music Awards for Drummer of the Year, Harmonica master, David Lipkind (I Can Lick and S.O.B. In The House, Portland Country Underground), and Jason Honl on Bass. Together as the Woodbrains, the band has entertained Blues, Jamband, and Roots audiences around the Northwest with their distinctive brand of roots music.

Definition 1.
A Whipsaw is a two-man long-bladed hand saw used to cut thick logs into planks.
Definition 2.
Whipsaw is a two man Guitar/Banjo - Drum duo from the weeping woods of Portland Oregon. This is a new band but these boys are not new to this. Henry Hill spent 25 years as the songwriter, guitarist and vocalist of heralded Portland band Hillstomp. Drummer Noah Phillips is a founding member of (equally heralded) Portland folk punk band The Taxpayers.
These two fellas came together in early 2026 and the walls immediately began to sweat. The Sun turned a deep pink and the Sturgeon deep in the Willamette looked at each other as if to say, “Finally”
This is Blues, this is Folk punk, this is dance music, this is Appalachian devil tunes. It’s all of those and it’s none of them.
This is Whipsaw.
