While Harding epitomized the vigor of the corn-fed farm boy, he was, in reality, a violator of reasonably healthy behavior. His only exercise consisted of desultory rounds of golf, fairly frequent love trysts, and at least twice-weekly marathon poker games. These card games were drenched in highballs, suffused with cigar smoke, and punctuated with copious expectorations of tobacco juice into strategically placed spittoons. While Harding and his cronies played cards and munched on roast beef sandwiches, the Duchess kept the whiskey flowing. These games often ran past one in the morning.

Mix three singer-songwriters, several stringed instruments, and a variety of percussive techniques, and you get Five Letter Word. This Portland-based band of powerful women includes Leigh Jones (guitar, percussion), Megan Alder (guitar) and Audra Nemir (bass), blending their signature harmonies into songs from folk to bluegrass to blues and beyond. Five Letter Word takes inspiration from the harmonic tradition of groups like the Wailin' Jennys, The Chicks, and The Wood Brothers, and add their own special flair to create a sound that is "uniquely infectious” and a show that is “delightful, with a few unexpected twists.

Old Country Rose set roots in Seattle in 2018. Since then, Jess and Country Dave have been swooning audiences with country duets and originals about living, loving and losing. Sometimes performing as a duo and other times with a full band, you can count on these two blending old favorites with just enough of new to capture a sound that feels timeless.
