Fifteen years is a pretty good run for a local band, but as the saying goes: all good things must come to an end. After fifteen years of bringing their revved-up brand of Celtic hillbilly rock n’ roll to audiences around the pacific northwest, The Wages of Sin are calling it good.

“It just feels like the right time,” says guitarist and singer Jesse Stewart. “There wasn’t any one thing; it’s more the accumulation of fifteen years of changes: our lives are pretty different now than when we started, and we didn’t want to continue on if we weren’t going to be able to give our music and our fans the energy and attention they deserve. We'd rather go out while we still love doing it. It’s bittersweet, to be sure — at this point, this crew is more like family to me than bandmates—but ultimately, we think it’s the right decision.”

Rest assured, however, that while The Wages may be going, they’re not going to go quietly. “It’s going to be a full-on Irish wake,” laughs Stewart. “The best way to say goodbye to something you love is to celebrate it alongside other people who loved it too. We definitely plan on leaving it all out there on the stage.”

Formed in 2003, The Wages of Sin play traditional music for non-traditionalists, mixing Celtic, bluegrass, country, and rockabilly, and chasing it with a bracing shot of punk rock. Over the years they’ve played hundreds of live shows and released three full-length albums and two EPs. Alternately rowdy and mournful, they're sure to get your feet tapping, your heart palpitating, and your liver crying for mercy. Repent, ye sinners, and be saved!

An eclectic mix of old-timey genres including bluegrass, country, blues, and rag time. Dark themes accompanied by bright melodies and sad overtones. Life from a perspective of a underdog either bound to loose or bound for glory.
Vito was born and raised in Kent, Washington. His dad owned a butcher shop for 20 years where he lost his middle finger on his fretting hand when he was 8. Following his inspiration from Django Reinhardt, Vito taught himself how to play several instruments nonetheless. He grew up playing punk rock music, but through evolution and maturity, he currently plays old time/americana music with ranges from bluegrass to rag time jazz. The influences and sound of his project, Vito and the One Eyed Jacks, are along the lines of the Devil Makes Three and Old Crow Medicine Show. Vito writes all the material and records most of the instruments. Vito has been playing in and around Seattle for the last twelve years (including the last 3 Folklife Festivals), and is currently looking for an opportunity to expand his audience. Joining Vito and making up the Jacks are: John Trent on Dobro, Ms. Nathalie Elam provides incredible female vocals as well as a strong rhythm guitar, and Mr. Travis Morgan accompanies on the fiddle with a classic pulse raising fever.
