The Road to Wonderfront: Battle of the Bands

  • The Strawberry Moons

    The Strawberry Moons

    Alternative

The Strawberry Moons are Aimee Jacobs (vocals, keyboard), Will A Lerner (vocals, keyboard, guitar), John Falk (guitar, vocals), Jason Areford (bass) and Dustin Schemensky (drums). They have all been involved in the San Diego music scene for several years now, in bands including The Burning of Rome, The Schizophonics, Mrs. Henry, and El Consumption. The idea for forming a band that showcased male/female vocals came from Will, who was influenced by the '60s baroque/vocal pop of Lee Hazlewood and The Left Banke, the lush classic rock of Fleetwood Mac, the intense folk rock of Richard & Linda Thompson, as well as more aggressive/passionate post-punk like PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. Knowing her astounding vocal range and considerable skill as a musician, Will approached Aimee about collaborating. Her love of modern psychedelic rock and synth pop seamlessly combined with what Will was already hearing in his head, so writing together was, from the start, a very natural and organic thing. The duo spent considerable time bringing together the right musicians, starting with John (Will's Shake Before Us bandmate), then Jason, who wisely suggested they add his long-time friend and bandmate Dustin on drums. Thus, in the spring of 2016, the line-up was complete and The Strawberry Moons officially born.

  • Pink Eye

    Pink Eye

    Indie Rock

Pinkeye is a genre-bending band of weirdos with a loud-mouth front woman and too
    many
instruments. Hailing from the northern badlands of San Diego, the band is an alchemy
    of clever
music and biting lyrics. Their songs are all individuals and span a variety of styles, but
    all are
always bright, energetic, sometimes raunchy, and vulnerable. A roaring smashed-
    together
breed of folk's purposeful words, punk's aggression and earnest, and the wink, class
    and sass
of cabaret, the band features an array of sounds with instruments as varied as their
    influences,
alongside meaningful lyrics delivered by a strong female vocal that ranges from honey-
    sweet to
    vicious.
    Pinkeye: moderately abrasive. Extremely contagious.
  • The Surrealistics

    The Surrealistics

    Indie Pop

The Surrealistics is a crack team of rockers from all over North County San Diego.

Fronted by leading lady Stephanie Brown, The Surrealistics formed in late 2016, after Brown’s return from recording on Gregg Allman’s final statement album Southern Blood at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. Taking influence from early rock and roll bands such as The Doors, MC5, and Jefferson Airplane, The Surrealistics brings in blistering blues guitar licks with searing organ textures. Combined with a driving rhythm and haunting soulful vocals, The Surrealistics has identified a dynamic sonic soundscape that is heavy, bluesy, and electrically driving.

The current line up consists of Stephanie Brown (Vocals), Sean Sanchez (lead guitar), Hunter Stewart (bass and rhythm guitar), Michael Stell (organ and piano), and Andrew Ware (drums). Check out their music on Spotify.
