With a dream-team roster of musicians combining the talents of Nashville’s most celebrated soul, jazz and rap artists, The Megaphones deliver a high-energy, powerful sound they have dubbed “hip hop soul.”  The band’s original songs, which bring a modern edge to the fun and funky approach of bands such as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and The Gap Band, are written and arranged by the band’s creator, saxophonist Rahsaan Barber. Featuring the lead vocals supplied by Music City’s powerhouse of soul, Jason Eskridge, and the signature flows of rapper Crisis, The Megaphones’ performances are fun, universal and cutting-edge, appealing to listeners across all ages and backgrounds.

  • Jared Mitchell

    Jared Mitchell

    Singer-Songwriter

Jared Mitchell is a dynamic 23 year-old singer songwriter in Nashville who has a style that is a blend of pop, folk, and Americana music. In Jared’s words his style is, “Not confined by a genre; the songs are allowed to breathe, to explore themselves.”

Born in San Francisco, Jared spent most of his formative years just outside of Reno, Nevada. Jared’s musical interests started from a young age – he began singing as a toddler, he has played the piano since he was 5 and added the guitar at 15. This musician comes from a musical family, his father plays music and sings in the church choir. Jared, (the proverbial middle child), and his two bothers all grew up singing in school.

Musically, the artists Gavin Degraw, Maroon 5, Amos Lee, Glen Hansard and John Mayer prominently influenced him, but Jared’s music really speaks for itself with rich vocals. In addition to show choir and musical theatre, it was also in his high school years that Jared started taking his talents beyond the school walls to performance opportunities in the community. There has been no keeping him away from a stage or a microphone since.

He relocated to Nashville to pursue music. He has played at a variety of settings around town from the iconic Blue Bird Café to numerous local venues. He has also had the opportunity to tour many major cities including Chicago, Austin, San Antonio, St. Louis, Little Rock, and Denver.

He got the writing bug as a young freshman in high school and has not stopped. Beyond vocals and instrumentals, Jared supplied his writing prowess for the last two bands he played with, John Flanagan from 2009 to 2010 where he played keys and synth, and Yours Truly from 2010 until 2012, stepping into the role of lead singer, in addition to keys and guitar.

He is now breaking out into a solo career. Jared wants to put out quality music above all else, and the talents of many seasoned professionals who have come along side him in support of his project have allowed him the privilege of not having to settle for anything less. Jared’s music is one that is real and honest; his creativity stems from personal experience - even he says, “99% of my music is first person, autobiographical, dealing with the ups and downs of love and love lost.” This is probably why people are so easily able to connect with his material.
