  • The Mars Volta

    Alternative Rock

The Mars Volta is an American progressive rock group formed in El Paso, Texas in 2001. The band was formed by Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocalist) and Omar Rodríguez-López (guitarist), who were former members of the post-hardcore band At The Drive-In. The Mars Volta's debut album, De-Loused in the Comatorium, was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. The album was produced by Rick Rubin and featured guest appearances from Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance and was certified Gold in the US. The Mars Volta was one of the most influential groups of the 2000s, with their unique blend of progressive rock and Latin influences. They are often cited as one of the most important bands of the post-hardcore era and have inspired many bands that followed them. Their influence can be heard in the work of modern bands such as Coheed and Cambria, Circa Survive and Portugal. The Man. The band's legacy continues to live on through their music and influence.

  • Kianí

    Latin Jazz

Kianí Medina is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter with more than 20 years of experience in the music world. From an early age, she performed on the most prestigious stages in Puerto Rico and the world with artists such as Cultura Profética and Viento de Agua, with whom she recorded several musical productions. You have also heard her voice on albums by Calle 13, Mimi Maura, El Laberinto del Coco and her father, the singer and trumpeter Jerry Medina, to name a few. In 2017 she began touring with Residente (René Pérez Joglar) as a backing vocalist.

Kianí belongs to a renowned musical heritage. In addition to her father's influence as a founding member of the group Batacumbele and a prominent singer with Eddie Palmieri, she also has on her mother Anna Carrión's side, her uncles Billy Carrión and Gary Carrión, both singers who performed with the orchestras of Ray Barretto, Mulenze, and Larry Harlow.

She has never defined herself by a particular style of music or any standard for creating sounds. Her career path has served her as a bridge towards constant evolution, always in search of her own sound, without limitations.

In November of 2024, Kianí Medina released "SED" ("Thirst"), her first EP, produced by Omar Rodríguez-López (The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In) through his own label, Rodríguez López Productions.
