The story of Cleveland, Ohio’s The Lighthouse And The Whaler is one of perseverance and determination; of personal, cumulative growth and maturity. Formed by Michael LoPresti in 2008, the band quickly gained momentum with bandmates Ryan Walker and Mark Porostosky, with their 2012 album, This Is An Adventure, helping them break onto the national scene. NPR called them "an artist on the rise," and their critical praise continued to mount. They spent much of 2013
touring in support of the release and 2014 writing what would become their next full-length record, Mont Royal. Their single "I Want To Feel Alive" would go on to amass now over 10 million streams, as critical reception intensified. Rolling Stone
called the album "a sincere and imaginative effort," and NPR named the band "one of the 100 to see at SXSW 2017." They continued to hone their live show and spent 2016 touring in support of their newest album.
The end of 2017 saw the band release their EP Paths, a release about their journey that helped to solidify their ascent, with Paste declaring them "a genre blurring innovator." In 2018, they released two singles, "Into The Unknown" and "Future Bling," and continued touring throughout the years. Their recent 2020 releases included singles "Brothers" and "California Sun," leading into a new EP Brothers (B-Sides), and a full-length LP entitled Talk (out fall 2021). The band has continued to spearhead new sounds and styles throughout 2022, with more music on the way in 2023.
The Lighthouse And The Whaler continues to add to their already impressive list of syncs with placements in Grey's Anatomy, American Idol, and the worldwife trailer for Disney's Christopher Robin. They have gone on multiple US headlining tours, including sold-out shows at The Echo, Schubas, Mercury Lounge, and Beachland Ballroom. They have shared the stage with artists such as Ra Ra Riot, The Temper Trap, Jukebox The Ghost, and more.
From LoPresti: "This is The Lighthouse And The Whaler that we always wanted it to be. There’s something there for you in the songs. There’s something you can find for yourself, no matter where you are in life, it came from a place where we were finding that for ourselves as well. We tried to make every single moment worth the listen, so
that people will want to go on that journey again."
