After the tears had lessened a bit from Rachel Nagy's passing, there was a memorial event/show in Detroit to celebrate her life. The Detroit Cobras featured at the event. A few weeks prior to the event, Marcus Durant (Zen Guerilla, MC50) approached Mary with the idea of having him sing a few songs.
Mary had had no plans of replacing Rachel, but this got her to thinking and after listening to a demo tape Marcus had presented her with, she agreed to have him join them. It went smashingly and Marcus has since become the vocalist for the band. Not that Rachel can ever be replaced, but this is a way to be able to keep the band's fire burning.
It was not an easy decision, but one that has since garnered a lot of excitement. Fans of the band continue to mourn the death of Rachel, while simultaneously celebrating the new life of The Detroit Cobras with Marcus at the helm.
