Description
A husband. A wife. An astonishing debut album entitled The Journey. As the drummer for crossover quartet Yellowjackets, Marcus Baylor is a three–time GRAMMY Award winner who performed and rec-orded with Cassandra Wilson and Kenny Garrett as he grew into the roles of composer, arranger, pro-ducer, and bandleader. Jean Baylor was introduced to jazz as a vocal performance major at Temple University; in those formative years, she was heavily influenced by such greats as Carmen McCrae, Jimmy Scott, and Shirley Horn. The group reached new heights in 2017 when they were impressively nominated for two 2018 GRAMMYs in both the jazz and R&B categories, a true feat for their independently released record The Journey. The Baylor Project will take listeners on an eclectic musical voyage that combines soulful emotion and technical virtuosity in equal measure. “A captivating ‘project’ that meets at the three–way intersection of jazz, gospel and legacy…Brimming with aural snapshots of their individual roots and the sacred space where they come together…” (Urban Music Scene)
