Description
In a career now into its third decade, The Bad Plus has avoided easy categorization through collective creativity, unique sonic textures, and a flair for live performance. The intensely collaborative trio has constantly searched for rules to break and boundaries to cross, bridging genres and techniques while exploring the infinite possibilities of three exceptional musicians working in perfect sync. In 2019, the band consists of founding members Reid Anderson and Dave King and new pianist Orrin Evans — a group of passionate collaborators with no single “leader.” Never Stop IIis the first full–length release from this lineup, comprised entirely of original music with each member contributing fresh compositions. “There have hardly been any jazz ensembles with a stronger collective identity, or more longevity. Perhaps only the Modern Jazz Quartet outstrips them. Like that quartet — and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, in other territory — the Bad Plus developed a devoted following, while reflecting a cultural moment.” (Giovanni Russonello, The NY Times, 1.3.2018)

The Bad Plus came together in New York City at the end of the 20th century and has avoided easy categorization ever since, winning critical praise and a legion of fans worldwide with their exploratory sound and kinetic live performances. The intensely collaborative trio has bridged genres and techniques while exploring the infinite possibilities of three exceptional musicians working in perfect synchronization. Their latest album, The Bad Plus Joshua Redman (released May 2015), is a powerful joint effort with one of today’s premier saxophonists, garnering a GRAMMY nomination. “With the most distinctive sound of any three–piece outfit since Nirvana, The Bad Plus demonstrates a vitality that few bands – rock, jazz, or whatever – can match.” (Amplifier)
