Talib Kweli
Talib Kweli
Urban
The Brooklyn-based MC earned his stripes as one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years.
“I’m a touring artist. I’m an artist that’s internationally known. I’m not just a local artist at this point in my career. I’m cognizant of the fact that what I do is beyond where it started. I’m trying to reach the apex of where I am now, but without turning my back on or dismissing what I’ve done before.”
After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental.
In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as “a platform for independent thinkers and doers.” Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books.

Soul Disciples is a hip-hop collective that emerged from the heart of San Diego’s vibrant underground music scene. Formed through a series of chance encounters and shared artistic passions, the group’s roots are deeply embedded in the city’s raw energy and diverse music culture. With each member bringing their unique style and voice, Soul Disciples has become known for their infectious stage presence, neck breaking beats, and a raw authenticity that resonates with fans of all musical palettes.
The members—each coming from different corners of the music scene—crossed paths at music festivals, studio sessions, and open mics, all sharing a common goal: to elevate the art of hip-hop while staying true to its roots. This collective spirit is reflected not only in their dynamic sound, which focuses on using live instrumentation and musicians to create their sonic backdrop, but also in their choice to include a visual artist as part of the groups core members as well.
Driven by the belief that hip-hop is more than just music—it’s a movement—Soul Disciples tracks explore themes of resilience, empowerment, and personal growth, while never shying away from social issues that are close to their hearts. Their music aims to spark thought, inspire change, and create a platform for voices that often go unheard.
Their live performances have become a staple of the San Diego scene, and they’ve had the honor of sharing stages with legendary acts such as Talib Kweli and The Pharcyde, further solidifying their reputation as one of hip-hop’s most exciting up-and-coming acts. Their shows are known for their raw energy, electrifying presence, and the collective vibe that makes each performance an unforgettable experience.
Soul Disciples draws influence from hip-hop’s golden age and modern trailblazers alike, with inspirations ranging from the lyrical prowess of Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest, to the cutting-edge innovation of Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator. Their sound merges the introspective lyricism of old-school rap with contemporary and vintage production styles, creating a fresh, powerful, and ever-evolving soundscape.
Their latest mixtape "Lifted Volume One" is out now and features their unique flips on some classic samples you may already know and a few hidden gems you probably haven't.
Looking ahead, Soul Disciples are aiming to push boundaries with their upcoming full length "Moonlit Massive" via All-Town Sound. They’re music promises to expand on the sound and themes they’ve cultivated, with exciting collaborations and creative experiments that will keep fans eagerly anticipating what comes next.
More than just a band, Soul Disciples represents a movement—one that embraces the power of words, the strength of unity, and the timeless energy of hip-hop. For anyone who believes in the power of authentic expression and the revolutionary potential of music, Soul Disciples is here to stay.
