Description
Fresh from winning the 2019 GRAMMY Award for Best Tropical Latin Album for Anniversary, Jazz Standard is excited to welcome back Spanish Harlem Orchestra. The soul–stirring, Spanish Harlem Orchestra made its Jazz Standard debut in December 2017 and Tore. It. UP! For on–stage excitement and musical precision, this thirteen–strong New York collective of musicians and vocalists is without peer. Now in its seventeenth year under the direction of pianist/leader Oscar Hernández, the SHO has collected three GRAMMY Awards – the first in 2002 for Across 110th Street as Best Salsa/Merengue Album, the second in 2007 for Viva La Tradición as Best Tropical Latin Album. The group’s latest CD, the self–titled Spanish Harlem Orchestra, features special guests Chick Corea and Joe Lovano on its gorgeous closing track “You And The Night And The Music.” “The music that the orchestra's members helped create merges ferocious Afro–Caribbean rhythms, arrangements that rev up hard–riffing horns and modern jazz harmonies, vocals that can be suavely romantic or flamboyantly improvisatory, and lyrics that encompass both the pleasures of the dance floor and the pride and aspirations of the barrio.” (Jon Pareles, The New York Times, 4.18.2005)   Oscar Hernandez – piano/leader Jeremy Bosch – vocals Carlos Cascante – vocals Marco Bermudez – vocals Doug Beavers – trombone Noah Bless – trombone Mitch Frohman – sax/flute Hector Colon – trumpet Manuel Ruiz – trumpet Luis Quintero – timbales George Delgado – congas Jorge Gonzalez – bongos Gerardo Madera – bass
