Shea Pierre is a celebrated New Orleans–based jazz pianist, composer, and educator whose musical journey began early in life. A member of his family's gospel ensemble, the Williams Sisters, he started performing in local churches at the tender age of four. Pierre further honed his craft at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts under the mentorship of jazz luminaries like Michael Pellera, Chris Severin, Ellis Marsalis, and Jason Marsalis. During his high school years, he toured parts of South Africa with the renowned Batiste Brothers Band. He then went on to earn a degree in jazz studies from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2014, where he studied with Dan Wall.
Throughout his career, Shea Pierre has become a fixture of the New Orleans jazz scene, performing regularly at institutions like the New Orleans Jazz Museum and the New Orleans Museum of Art. He leads the Shea Pierre Trio and is known for his dynamic live performances and versatility across styles—from gospel and blues to hip‑hop influences. Beyond performing, he’s also a composer and producer, self-releasing his debut album Music.Color.Medicine, which blends genres to reflect deep narratives within Black American life.
Tonight, Shea Pierre presents his trio.
