  • Arooj Aftab

    Arooj Aftab

    Alternative Rock

Arooj Aftab innovates off classical Pakistani, Sufi & pre-partition South Asian music, creating original compositions honoring ancestral roots, for a sound that is fresh, graceful, and musically complex. Paying homage to classical sufi legends such as Abida Parveen and Reshma; neo-soul and jazz icons such as Sade and Ella Fitzgerald; and contemporary world musicians such as Marisa Monte and Fat Freddy’s Drop, Arooj presents an original, interactive sound embraced by young and old, South Asian and beyond.

Originally from Lahore, Pakistan, Arooj moved to the U.S. in 2005 to study Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music. Having completed her education and now based in New York, Arooj is working as a fulltime performing artist, music composer and sound editor.

Through exposure to diverse musical genres and incredibly talented artists in Boston and in New York City, Arooj is inspired to continuously develop her art and deepen her understanding of the possibilities of music. Layering subtle, intricate, dynamic vocals over acoustic instrumentation, Arooj skillfully re-imagines indigenous soul with signature ‘cool.’

Arooj will soon be releasing her debut album as part of Rebuild Pakistan, an initiative she created to promote a vision of peace and healing for Pakistan, inspiring a global community to rebuild perspective on Pakistan, and urging the people of Pakistan to actively engage in rebuilding their homeland. The album and the initiative harness collective creativity to express solidarity with politically stigmatized, economically marginalized, culturally and spiritually powerful people across the earth.

  • Lily Virginia

    Lily Virginia

    Alternative Rock

She keeps a cow skull under her bed.

"In my defense, he's kind of like a protector, maybe a shaman or a dreamcatcher... besides, where else can I keep him in NY?"

Once you hear Lily Virginia's music it all makes sense. You can almost hear those bones, feathers, shells - forgotten exoskeletons - scattered throughout her songs.

Her delicately powerful voice and carefully crafted lyrics hold a strength in their raw vulnerability. With influences as varied as Florence + the Machine to Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac to the Pixies, Lily Virginia plays her own brand of alternative folk-pop, bringing together americana, rock and pop to create an experience where each song can exist on its own. "It's the same if I'm whispering a lullabye, humming something catchy or reaching into a gritty part of myself. It's always been about singing a story, being honest, and connecting with something spiritual."

Raised in the wild hippie west of California, Lily has lived a few different lives. From studying music in Argentina and Brazil, to a 7 year stint as a ninja, to love, heartbreak, and magic, she's carefully folded these experiences into her knapsack of songstories. She unpacked her bag in Brooklyn and has called NYC home ever since.

Lily has played all over NYC at venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Piano’s, and Pete’s Candy Store as well as throughout the NorthEast including Boston's renowned Club Passim. An accomplished songwriter, she recently completed the 2013 BMI Songwriters Workshop and has had her music placed in film and on major network TV (ABC).

  • Janelle Kroll

    Janelle Kroll

    Alternative Rock

Meet sweet and sultry singer-songwriter JANELLE KROLL. Relishing in her Chitown roots, Janelle cultivated her R&B-meets-indie rock vibe in the studio and on stage at spaces such as House Of Blues, Uncommon Ground, Double Door, Schubas and The Modern Wing at The Art Institute of Chicago. Now based in NYC, her new music can be previewed live at showcases, launch parties and popup clubs alike. Recently, the songbird’s deep house cut on Defected Records with Dennis Ferrer, "Mind Ur Step", culminated in a nod from the 2014 IDMAs with a nomination in its category. She is currently touring with paranoid electronic music project Big Data, contributing leads vocals.

  • Vandana Jain

    Vandana Jain

    Alternative Rock

Vandana Jain released her impressive ANTI VENUS this November, the debut full-length effort from the Brooklyn-based graphic designer turned performance artist over a year in the making. The message of ANTI VENUS is one of a sophisticated feminist voice, rejecting assumed and tired mores while embracing the more primal and sensual experience of female power. The incredible album artwork was created as a collaboration between Vandana Jain and artist May Lin Le Goff; a stunning self-portrait torn in two, flipped and stitched together.

Raised in India and educated in London, Vandana Jain has collected an eclectic tapestry of both musical and aesthetic influences over the years, all of which find a place in the music. Everything from Portishead to Pink Floyd, the rave scene in London and Indian pop music lend to her unique layered style of glitchy beats, electronic swells and heavy synth melodies that lay beneath Jain's emotive front and center vocal play.

"Elements of sinister trip-hop rub up against neon synth-pop, all of it suffused with powerful lyrics on female vulnerability as it coincides with ferocious womanly spirit." - BlackBook

Kicking off 2013, Vandana Jain released her visually striking video for "Men With Sticks" directed by friend and fashion photographer Bon Duke which dropped earlier this year, which was taken from Jain's debut Vandamner EP which she quietly self-released last year available now via her Bandcamp.

Jain performs an all analog electronic set with band members Yusuke Yamamoto and Ryan Casey. Her band is associated with the indie underground and DIY community in NYC playing electro-synth-post-punk-pop music.

"Through the metaphysical resonance, it’s almost as if your brain is transported into a musical k-hole, but you won’t mind it at all." Logan Brendt, LadyGunn
