Description
Since his childhood years singing with the church choir in his hometown of Warren, Ohio, music and spirituality have always been fully intertwined in the artistic vision of trumpeter, bandleader, composer, educator and activist Sean Jones. Fast–forward to 2004, when Wynton Marsalis offered Sean the position as lead trumpeter in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, a position he held for the six years. In that same year, Sean Jones released his disc debut Eternal Journey (Mack Avenue); he and his bands have since released a total of eight albums including their latest, Live From Jazz At The Bistro (2017). “Given his exemplary technique and imposing stylistic reach, traits previously displayed on an impressive series of studio sessions,” wrote Mike Joyce for All That Jazz, “it’s not surprising that trumpeter Sean Jones consistently puts the wind in his band’s sails on this St. Louis concert recording.” As a sideman, Jones has worked with some of the best: Illinois Jacquet, Frank Foster, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, and Gerald Wilson. In 2011, he was selected by Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter for their international Tribute to Miles tour.
