Sam Opoku is a Ghanaian-American Afrosoul/R&B artist who moved to the U.S. when he was 8 years old after his mother won the visa lottery. Being selected with less than a 1% chance was nothing short of a miracle and his family sacrificed a lot to come to the states for the chance at a better life.
As an immigrant in between cultures, Sam learned to embrace musical influences from both worlds to create his own unique and rich sound. He fell in love with poetry and taught himself to play piano and before long started signing and performing in church services, musicals and talent shows. He grew a love for the art of storytelling and songwriting in all its forms, finding inspiration from Chance the Rapper and Lupe Fiasco, just as much as Frank Sinatra and Beethoven. His music is a fusion of Khalid and Koffee with a blend of Andre 3000 and Labyrinth.
Sam’s support spans not just in the United States but also in his home country of Ghana as well as internationally. He’s worked with super producers Darkchild, Northboi the Oracle, and Yonni who have worked with the likes of Beyonce, TheWEEKnd, Danileigh and Sam Smith to name a few. He’s also tapped into the EDM world with the world's largest independent label, Armada Music, headed by international heavyweight Armin Van Buuren and gained support from Black Koffee on a record with South African duo, Kususa. His music has been featured in movies and T.V. shows with the latest being his record “Yellow” featured on Netflix’s #1 hit show, Ginny & Georgia.
Sam makes music to spark the light in people and this year is going to be the brightest yet. He makes music for the children in all of us. Sam’s Ghanaian name is Kofi so no matter the weather, it’s looking like it’s Kofi SZN!
