Description
A celebrated composer as well as one of today’s premiere bassists, Rufus Reid never fails to bring something fresh and distinctive to every appearance on our stage. In 2014, for example, it was Quiet Pride, an extended work in five movements for large jazz ensemble inspired by the sculptures of the artist Elizabeth Catlett. Quiet Pride – The Elizabeth Catlett Project (Motéma Music) received two nominations in the 57th annual GRAMMY Awards, for Best Large Jazz Ensemble and Best Instrumental Composition for suite’s first movement, “Recognition.” Meanwhile, since 2010 Reid has continued to lead his Out Front Trio with pianist Steve Allee and drummer Duduka Da Fonseca, releasing two fine Motéma Music CDs (Out Front and Hues Of A Different Blue) with this group plus guest players like saxophonist Bobby Watson. This week at Jazz Standard, the trio is joined by another outstanding saxophonist, Yosvany Terry – and the proceedings will be recorded live for CD release. Make your reservations now!
